Thanks for Riding with Us During National Bike Month!

This May, Boise was one of many places to gather and share in bike joy for National Bike Month. National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to give biking a try. Organizations across town put together jam-packed event calendars to get people out and riding. Here at BBP, we hosted seven different bike events.

We kicked off the month with bike trivia at Here’s How Public House, where people learned about Lael Wilcox’s record-breaking ride around the world and how ahead of the time Idaho was with the stop-yield law. In between, there was lots of bike riding, with a BASH hosted at the Ann Morrison Traffic Garden, Bike to and from Work Day with our neighborhood friends Dawson Taylor and Lost Grove Brewing, and a group ride to an AC Boise home game that helped avoid the traffic and got us right to the front of the stadium. Local residents came to an after-hours presentation with Nina Schaeffer from the City of Boise to learn more about the Pathways Master Plan and discuss the current status plus ask questions about the future. To wrap it all up, there was the second annual Bike Month Alleycat Race, Freewheel Frenzy! Over 100 riders and 28 teams turned out Saturday afternoon to decipher clues and bike all around Boise, with the last clue sending them to Barbarian Brewing for a well-deserved bevvy, where a portion of beer sales were donated back to Boise Bicycle Project.

To all who attended one event or many, thank you for supporting and being a part of this community. It fills our cup to see familiar faces and new ones, gathering and sharing in the collective love and joy of bicycling. By showing up, you are helping to create the community you want to see in Boise. A community where you can ride for fun, fitness, or with family, or for taking essential trips to work or shop. Where, by just riding your bike, you are part of the movement for safer streets, connected communities, a healthier planet, and happier people. How cool! There is something special here at BBP, and we’re glad you are a part of it!

To all who could not attend the May events, don’t fret! We have many more fun opportunities coming up. Keep an eye on our newsletter, calendar, and social media to catch the next one!
