Available Teen Programs
Teen Earn-a-Bike
Learn basic bike repair. Build bikes for others. Take a bike home!
This 4-week class teaches you how to repair and maintain bikes with no prior experience needed. You’ll work alongside other teens, learn how to use tools, and earn a refurbished bike to keep! Bikes you help repair in class will go to kids in the community.

What you get:
A refurbished bike, helmet, lock, and light
Hands-on mechanical skills
Confidence in fixing your own bike
This program is a good fit if you don’t currently have a bike and/or want to learn by doing.
Requirements:
For teens ages 12 - 17

Application required
Teen Apprenticeship Program
Learn advanced skills & be part of the BBP crew.
The teen apprentices, AKA “Fixies”, are a cohort of teens who want to level up their bike repair skills, starting from the basics and working up to more advanced mechanics. Over 5 weeks, you’ll learn a range of mechanical skills, help teach classes, work in the BBP shop, and build real-world job and leadership skills.
What you get:
40+ community service hours
Leadership and teaching experience
Customer service & shop skills
Hang time with others in your cohort
This program is a good fit if you don’t currently have a bike and/or want to learn by doing.
Requirements:
For teens ages 13 - 17
Commitment to a 5-week program (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and one Saturday)
Spring session: May 26th-June 25th, + Saturday, June 27th 9am-12pm
Summer session: July 7th-August 6th, + Saturday, July 18th, 9am-12pm
Application required before the deadline.
Spring session deadline: Saturday, May 2nd at 5 pm
Summer session deadline: Saturday, June 6th at 5 pm
Other Ways for Teens to Get Involved
Volunteer Night
Help others. Plug into the community.
Every Thursday, 6 - 8 PM
Volunteer Night is a mix of projects: fixing bikes, helping families, and supporting whatever the shop needs that week! It’s a great way to learn new skills and get involved alongside volunteers of all ages.
Requirements:
Ages 12 - 17
Must adhere to BBP’s shop policies and volunteer handbook
Must create a volunteer profile
Must sign up for a volunteer night shift
BASH (Bicycle & Safety Hour)
Give back. Help kids learn to ride safely.
Spring & summer, April - September.
Help run bicycle & safety hour in the BBP traffic garden! Fit helmets, give away lights and locks, and teach basic riding skills to kids with support from BBP staff.
Requirements:
For teens ages 12 - 17
Must be willing to work patiently with kids in the outdoors
Volunteer Mechanic / Donations
Get hands-on experience in the shop.
Weekly, Wednesday - Saturday shifts.
Weekly volunteer mechanic & donation support shifts help keep our shop running, from repairs to processing bike donations. If you’re new to bike repairs, we recommend that you check out our volunteer night & teen drop-in opportunities above! If you have more experience working on bikes, this is a great option for you.
Requirements:
Ages 16 & under must be accompanied by an adult
Must create a volunteer profile
Must sign up for a volunteer shift
Teen Drop-in
Learn basic bike repair. Make friends. Work on bikes with other teens.
Every Thursday, 4 - 6 PM
A weekly session where you can build skills, earn volunteer hours, and get comfortable working in the shop with no long-term commitment required. You’ll help refurbish bikes for kids in the community while learning mechanics along the way.
Requirements:
Ages 12–17
Passionate about inclusive bike access and community.
Must adhere to BBP’s shop policies and volunteer handbook
No need to sign up - just show up!

All programs are supervised by trained BBP staff
