RESIDENT INFORMATION
Attend the Open Forum for Collister Neighbors
Join the open forum on September 15th from 6 - 7 PM at Collister United Methodist Church!
The City of Boise and the Collister Neighborhood Association will be there to answer any questions Collister residents may have.
What is Open Streets Boise?
Hosted by the Boise Bicycle Project, Open Streets Boise temporarily transforms neighborhood streets into car-free community spaces where folks can bike, walk, and roll together. The initiative encourages active transportation, fosters community engagement, and highlights the importance of making streets safer and more accessible for everyone.
This year’s event is made possible with support from the City of Boise and in partnership with the Collister Neighborhood Association. It will take place along W Catalpa Dr in the Collister Neighborhood between Collister Dr and W Hill Rd (the roundabout intersection) on Sunday, September 27th, from 12 - 5 PM. This stretch will be fully closed to vehicle traffic, turning it into a safe, open space for all-ages community activities.
WHy Is Open Streets Boise Happening?
Open Streets Boise aims to:
Promote active transportation and healthier lifestyles.
Encourage community interaction and social cohesion.
Reimagine public spaces as community hubs, showcasing their potential beyond just serving cars.
Support local businesses by drawing residents and visitors to the area.
Raise awareness about road safety and the benefits of car-free zones.
Traffic & Parking
-
W Catalpa Dr will be closed to through traffic from 8 am to 7 pm.
Closed intersections will include these intersections with W Catalpa Dr: Angelo Ln, Shatto Ln, Sycamore Dr, Hawthorne Way, Hawthorne Dr, N Oak Park Pl, Tamarack Dr, N Tamarack Ave, N Whitehead St, 39th St, N Woody Ln.
Detour routes will be clearly marked, and traffic control personnel will be on-site to assist with traffic management and ensure smooth detour flows.
-
All vehicles must be removed from W. Catalpa Dr. by 8:00 AM on Sunday, September 27. The street will remain closed to vehicle traffic until 7:00 PM.
If you anticipate needing access to your vehicle during the closure, Edwards Greenhouse has generously made parking available for Collister residents (see the Edwards Greenhouse access location on the map below). You may also park on a nearby residential street outside the event closure that is within walking distance.
Please note that the following streets will become dead ends while the event route is closed:
Angelo Ln.
Shatto Ln
Hawthorne Way / N. Tamarack Ave.
N. Oak Park Pl.
If you live on one of these streets and expect to need your vehicle between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM, we recommend parking in one of the alternative locations listed above before the road closure begins.
Boise Police Department officers, medical personnel, and event staff will be stationed throughout the event. In the event of an emergency, responders will be in the neighborhood, and if necessary, staff can assist in escorting your vehicle to the nearest available exit.
-
Access to homes within the event route will be restricted. If you need to drive during the event, we ask that you move your vehicle before the street closures begin. In case of emergencies or special circumstances, flaggers will be on hand to assist with vehicle movement. Please note that vehicular movement during the event will be limited and carefully managed to ensure the safety of participants.
Residents of the closed area who have accessibility needs or need an escort can visit the Boise Bicycle Project tent (see the map below), or find the nearest volunteer or police officer. The event route will need to be cleared of attendees and obstacles upon escort, so please consider this a last resort and plan to park off of the event route if you are able.
