Programs Mechanic
Hello, my name is Veda. I'm a program mechanic, and I have been working at BBP since 2018 and really enjoy working here. I mostly work with kids and volunteers in our programs. I teach kids how to work on bikes for a better future in their life, so they have the experience as they get older, and being able to trust themselves to do things that seem impossible. It is fun to also do volunteer program things at the shop, and teach people how to work on bikes so they can help work with kids more.
I discovered BBP through my friends that I grew up with, and I remember when we came to the shop the people were so nice and caring. They told me about youth programs and how to get a bike from them. They gave me a bike so I can learn how to fix myself and that’s how I learned about mechanic experience. Nowadays, I teach similar things for the kids, where the kids come to our shop for 3 or 4 weeks of class and get their own bikes after they finish their class.
I also teach apprentices - teenagers who are looking for jobs. We train them about roles in the shop, so they feel comfortable with the job they're gonna be looking for. When we finish training them we give them their certificate and write a letter of reference for the work they have done for us in the shop.
