Director of Shop Operations
New to Boise in 2023, my wife and I visited once on a whim and moved here from Wisconsin two months later. Among the things noted in our visit was the kindness of the people; it very much reminded us of the Midwest. As an avid rider, it was also impossible to miss the seeming droves of people in the hills and roads on bicycles. Seeing a community like that alive and well is encouraging.
I always enjoy hearing folks’ introduction to bikes, and my story is similar to many that I hear. It involved a crimson 1988 Trek 400 road bike that hung in my parents’ garage most of my childhood, dusty and inspiring curiosity. In high school, some of my friends got into road cycling, and I was not about to be left out. The curiosity came down from the rafters, took a trip to my local shop, Expedition Supply, where I bought some matching red-walled tires, white bar tape, and started riding. I fell in love with the freedom, the quiet space, and roaming the quiet country corners of the Dairyland under my own power.
Working at shops and riding bikes has simply snow-balled since that moment, and they have always been hand-in-hand, an intrinsic part of my life. Being able to service the community and experience the depth of the kindness Boise has to offer at the Bike Project really feels like a completion of the circle for me.
If I don’t see you in the shop, I’ll see you out there- Happy trails!
