More Than 500 Bikes Fixed for Free at 42 Locations in Boise So Far This Year!

Summer is wrapping up in Boise, and with it, so is Boise Bicycle Project's busiest season for its Mobile Fix-it Program.

So far in 2026, Boise Bicycle Project has repaired more than 750 bicycles for free, including nearly 500 at 42 different locations around town through our Mobile Fix-it Program. By the end of the year, that number will be 1,000 bikes fixed for free!

BBP's Mobile Fix-it Program is a roaming education series that we run for the community where volunteers work with community members to teach them how to make needed repairs on their bikes. The program specifically targets areas in town where we donate a high number of bicycles in order to ensure referrals from our other programs, who we know are reliant on their bikes for transportation, continue to be served well by bikes they received from our shop.

New this year, Boise Bicycle Project has further served some of these communities through an expansion of its teen mechanic class where mechanic lessons have been taught to teen participants at different community centers and apartment complexes. Upon graduating that class series, teen participants then helped our shop host a mobile repair event right there at the apartment where they live or the center they attend for other programming in order to employ their newly learned bike mechanic skills in service of their community.

Boise Bicycle Project's mission has always been focused on three words: community, connection, and empowerment. To us, this new partnership between two of our existing programs helps is recenter that mission in the work we are doing, where we are not only engaging members of our community, but working to empower them with the skills to address the transportation barriers they face and seeking inroads to connect them more fully not only to our programs at BBP, but back into their community as we keep this whole project rolling forward with increasing momentum.
