Full-time Mechanic

Overview

Team mechanics at the Boise Bicycle Project refurbish bicycles, complete bicycle repair, and offer bicycle education to our patrons in our DIY bike shop. Team mechanics work with the Director of Shop Operations and the Shop Coordinator to reach impact goals in making safe, reliable, serviceable, affordable, and fun bicycles available to the community in need, while also offering sales support and great customer service.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

DIY Repair and Shop User Experience (60%)

  • Work with patrons and members on their projects in the DIY shop.
    - Your primary focus is to educate customers and empower them to complete their own projects. BBP patrons come from all walks of life and have a diverse range of lived experiences.

  • Maintain a positive, empowering, and educational shop experience for staff, volunteers, and members

  • Provide top-caliber customer service and sales support in BBP’s retail space

Refurbish Donated Bicycles - Build Safe, Reliable, Serviceable, Affordable, and Fun Bicycles (20%)

  • Have strong mechanical and diagnostic skills centered around working on bicycles of all makes and conditions

  • Efficiently refurbish donated bicycles in accordance with Boise Bicycle Project standards

  • Perform bicycle safety checks, diagnose mechanical issues

Intake and process donated bicycles and accessories (20%)

  • Interact with community bicycle donors as a BBP ambassador

  • Make real-time decisions on the future impact of donations

  • Assist in facilitating the warehousing and processing of donations, smooth and

    organized

  • Working with community volunteers and directing a small team to reach these

    goals on a regular basis

JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • You have a passion for teamwork, are an adept communicator, and have an arsenal of interpersonal skills

  • You enjoy working with people from all walks of life, all backgrounds, and all ability levels

  • You’ve been paid to wrench on a wide variety of bicycles for a year or more
