Goatheads aren't under quarantine. Let's get 'em.

Ok, not so fast. Luckily Goatheads still haven’t crept out of the ground yet, but we are expecting them to in June. Over the last two years, we have collected 8 tons of Goatheads. 8 tons!! And it shows. When we went to the Wylie apartments to pick goatheads, we could barely find them! That’s because we targeted that area the year before, and when we go back this year we expect to find even less.

This year will be no different, but will look different.

We have our collection website live where you can find how to identify them, where to find them, and what supplies you need to pick them. Come June 1st, we will launch Goathead collection, but we will not have a weigh station at North End Organic Nursery… yet.

Due to COVID-19, we don’t want to create an unnecessary trip for our committed pickers until our community goes into Stage 3. Instead of weighing them, we ask you to take some pics! We want to see what your picking area looks like before, and your impact after. Not only does this give us a measurement of our impact this year, but gives you some serious bragging rights to your friends and family. Heck, you may even inspire others to pick them and thats what we want!

Stay tuned for picking parties throughout the summer! We will host small group (no more than 10) picking party at hotspots around town! To follow COVID-19 protocols, we ask that at risk individuals and those over 60 to avoid these shifts, and that those who can sign up wear a mask at the picking parties.

We will have those volunteer opportunities up in June. Until then, stay safe and stay vigilant for Goatheads!
