pedal-powered community

We’re not all wrenches and bolts here at BBP. Throughout the year we organize events to celebrate the biking community here in Boise. From 12 inch trikes, to full suspension tandem bikes, everyone is welcome in pedaling together wherever that may be!

Social Rides

Social Rides are a way for us to engage with our community, promote the environmental & social benefits of biking, and well... get out and ride our bikes together!

In the past we have done pizza crawls to tours of nonprofits, but there is so much more to explore in Boise. We want to empower YOU to organize and lead your dream social ride with us. You've got the ideas, we've got the resources. Let's get Boise riding!

Have an idea for a social ride? Fill out the form below and we’ll get in touch with you.

Also check out our calendar for upcoming rides!

SOME SOCIAL RIDE GUIDELINES

(Want to bend the rules a little? Reach out to info@boisebicycleproject.org to talk it through.)

  • We typically host Social Rides on the first Friday of the month, leaving from the shop at 6pm (so employees can participate too!). We can be pretty flexible on this if need be.

  • Social rides are for anyone & everyone - we want to encourage an inclusive atmosphere!

  • We love collaborating with local businesses and organizations! If you need help coordinating, let us know.

  • Safety is a priority! One of our staff or volunteers will give a brief safety talk before we ride. A front white light & rear red reflector is required when riding at night (yep, it's the law), and while helmets are not required by law, we highly recommend them (your brain will love you).

If you'd like to organize your dream social ride with us, reach out to us at info@boisebicycleproject

Boise Goathead Fest

For years, the tire popping demon has plagued the bicycle community in Boise. Rides have been ruined, tires have been trashed, and punctures have permeated our pedal powered lives.

But every year for one day, the monster’s has a change of heart. Instead of popping tires, Boise’s most despised invasive species gives back to Boise’s bicycle nonprofits and lends its hand in transforming Boise into the Bicycle Capital of America.

Come join us in 2019 for the second annual year of the festival on August 3rd and 4th at Capitol Park. We’ll have music, food and drinks, and the long running bicycle parade of Boise!

During the month of May, youth can track their rides to earn points. Youth can also earn “Bonus” points for exploring the greenbelt, community parks, Library!s, and other neighborhoods.

Group rides will be held weekly in May, each with a unique destination and theme. At the end of the month youth will tally their points and be eligible to win prizes at the Finale Party held at Kristen Armstrong Municipal Park!

Holiday Kid’s Bike Giveaway

Every December, BBP hosts a massive kids bike giveaway for kids ages 4-11. Kids are referred to us by local non-profit organizations, schools, social workers, after school programs, and other like-minded organizations.

Our volunteer and staff at each event facilitates a bike and helmet fit section, a safety skills course, and a chance to decorate each bike. In 2017, BBP donated 320 bikes in one day.

Registration for the next HKBG will open Fall of 2018.
