November Volunteer Opportunities


We encourage volunteers to participate in a volunteer orientation if they haven’t volunteered at BBP before. If you haven’t completed an orientation, but would still like to volunteer, please stick to the Tuesday Walk-In volunteer nights.

Christmas Kids Bike Giveaway preparations are in full swing and now is the time to step forward if you’d like to get in on the fun. As usual, volunteer mechanics are in high demand as we’re looking to give over 400 kids bikes away this Christmas season but we’re going to need people of all different skill sets to help us accomplish our goal. We’ve got a CKBG Volunteer Committee with 5 subcommittees established to help make sure we are covering all our bases. Take a look at the list below and see which one may be the best fit for you:

1 - Bikes: Help lead volunteer nights & kids bike building in and out of the shop; Assist in tracking the size and type of completed bicycles.

The Bike Committee will lead kids bike building during volunteer nights and engage build-a-bike partners interested in refurbishing bikes at home or at other bike shops. It will also assist in tracking the size and type of completed bikes.  

2 - Event Prep: Manage volunteers and determine best practices to compile safety kits (locks, lights), prep helmets, process kids' applications, make phone calls to families (translations), and/or oversee snacks/food and afterparty planning.

The Event Prep Committee is responsible for compiling safety kits (locks, lights), prepping helmets, processing CKBG applications, making phone calls to families (translators needed!), procuring snacks, and afterparty planning.

3 - Adopt-a-Bike & Thank Yous: Outreach/marketing planning for sponsorships/donations, oversee/determine best practices for pictures & tracking, assist with thank you letters.

The Adopt-a-Bike and Thank You Committee will be assisting with sponsorships/donations and follow-up, including thank you letters and event photos.

4 - Transportation: Organize transportation to & from BBP for getting families to and from the shop and bikes back to homes; liaison between transport crew, community center/org. reps and families.

The Transportation Committee will be coordinating volunteers and vehicles to provide rides to & from the BBP from Community Centers and schools.   

5 - Day-Of Logistics & Workflow: Determine best practices and identify volunteer leaders for: registration, photos, helmet fit, bike staging, bike fit, safety class, translation; Help onboard volunteer shift leaders.

The Day-Of Logistics & Workflow Committee will be responsible for the overall layout and organization of the CKBG. It will identify and onboard volunteer leaders for: registration, photos, helmet fit, bike staging, bike fit, safety class, and translation.

In addition, from now up until the event we will be looking for folks with trucks and trailers to help us transport bikes to and from the shop as needed. We’ve had a number of people come forward with temporary storage solutions in an effort to accommodate hundreds of kids bikes, but we’re always on the lookout for more. If you have access to any of the aforementioned we could sure use your help.
