New ‪#‎theMAX‬ Action Items & Update: Grassroots Change!

Nov. 13th, 2015

I chatted with Courtney, Max's Mom, today and got a little update on Max. As you can see in the picture, he's a trooper and he's hanging in there. We were all hoping to welcome him back to Boise/home by Thanksgiving, but it looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer. Some of Max's skin graphs are taking really well, some aren't, so Max had his 12th surgery yesterday. It's a bit of a set back, but you look at Max's smile and it is hard to be anything but inspired by this little guy and how strong he's being. So now it's time for us to be strong for him. Below is how we can fight for Max this weekend.

ACTION ITEMS

1. BUNDLE UP AND GO FOR A RIDE

This may be one of the last “nice” weekends of the year. So bundle up and take the family out on a bike ride for Max. It doesn’t matter where you go, but it doesn’t hurt if it ends with hot chocolate or coffee. It’s important to teach our kids that you can ride all year long, and that some people have to…it’s their only transportation. It also shows ACHD (the Ada County Highway Department) and ITD (Idaho Transportation Department) that riding bikes isn’t just a summertime thing. It’s an all the time thing, and we need better infrastructure. There is safety in numbers, and numbers bring infrastructure. It’s a win win when we all choose to ride.

Don’t forget to take some pictures, wear your THE MAX t-shirts under your jackets and post them with #THEMAX. Let’s show Max that we’re riding for him and thinking about him.

We still have all sizes (men’s, women’s, and youth) of THE MAX t-shirts at BBP if you haven’t picked one up yet. We can even ship them.http://www.boisebicycleproject.org/themax

2. WATCH “BATKID BEGINS,” OVER THE WEEKEND OR AT LEAST CHECK OUT THE TRAILER

I watched this movie last week, and thought about Max the entire time. Be careful, there might be a few tears, but tears of joy. Being sick, being hurt, being stuck in the hospital for months isn’t how a child should spend their childhood. Whether it’s for Max, or for any child in the community, let’s make sure we’re doing everything we can to give kids the opportunity to be a kid.

3. SHARE YOUR PROGRESS / SHOW AND TELL

We tried this last week and didn’t get a lot of comments, but I’ve been speaking to a ton of you privately and I know you’re hard at work. Even if you just went on one extra ride, it makes a difference, I promise. So post a quick or long comment below and tell us what you’re up to and what you've been working on. It will inspire more people to fight for Max, it will get more people riding, it will boost the amount of times this post is seen to the masses, and it keep the momentum going.

…from last week’s action items.
Take a few moments to post what you’ve working on in the comments below or share this post on your own timeline and highlight your work/progress on top. If you need help with your work, ask for it. People will jump on board if they see your passion.

Ok, pick 1, 2, or do all 3. It is going to make a difference and it is going to save lives if we all stick with it.

You'll get another set of Action Items early next week.

You can search past action times by searching ‪#‎THEMAXACTIONITEMS ‬Let's keep the momentum going.

Now share this on your own Facebook page and challenge others to do the same!
