October 8th, 2015 the MAX Homework Assignment

Start Saving Lives Today! Today's the MAX Action Items!

Homework assignment below, but first, thank you to all who attended last night and all who supported from afar. It was not an easy night, because it's not a easy subject. We could tell some left excited and inspired, while others left feeling helpless and hopeless. We understand and identify with both sides, we've been there.

But, now is not the time to feel helpless and hopeless, because we have momentum on our side, we have Max and our children to fight for, and there is so much we can do. It starts with YOU!

3 times a week, we're giving out homework. Each assignment has 3 action items and you have the option of doing 1 or all 3 items. They should take less than 30 minutes each, and if you stick to it YOU will save lives and YOU will make a difference.

The MAX Action Items: October 8th 2015

1. DOES YOUR KID'S SCHOOL HAVE SAFE ROUTES?

Find out whether your kid, nephew, granddaughter's... school is involved with Safe Routes to School. You can do this by contacting their teacher, principal, Lisa.Brady@ymcatvidaho.org, or just contact me Jimmy@boisebicycleproject.org and I will research for you. If they do, great, find out what day Safe Routes is coming and be ready to volunteer/recruit volunteers to help. If they don't contact Lisa and begin talking to other parents who will help ask the principal to bring Safe Routes to your school.

2. WHO IS YOUR ACHD COMMISSIONER?

This is something you need to know, because you elect them based on your district, and with a loud enough voice, they will listen to you and they will fight for you. You can find out who your's is here. Save their email to your contacts, you will be contacting them soon.

3. TIME FOR A NEIGHBORHOOD BBQ!

One of the biggest lessons we learned last night is that neighborhoods can make a difference. 1 voice can sometimes slip through the cracks, but 10, 20, 30 voices are loud and hard to ignore. Make a quick flier and invite your neighbors over for a "The MAX BBQ" this Saturday or Sunday. We recommend holding in your front yard and putting up signs "Slow down and join us, we've reached The Max." or whatever you see fit. Talk about the concerns on your street, talk about drafting and disseminating an email from each neighbor to your ACHD commissioner, and maybe talk about setting up a facebook group for your neighborhood so people know how they can easily get involved.

Ok, pick 1, 2, or do all 3. It is going to make a difference and it is going to save lives if we stick with it. You'll get another set of Action Items on Saturday. Let's keep the momentum going.

Share this on your own Facebook page and challenge others to do the same!
