Just over a month now until Boise’s biggest bicycle giveaway of the year and we need YOUR help to make it the most successful one yet!

For the past few weeks volunteers have been crankin’ out kids bike builds and at the moment we’ve got a little over half of what we’re aiming for. Now is a great time to come in and help wrench on kids bikes. And there are plenty of other ways to play your part in the big event.

There is a Christmas Kids Bike Giveaway Volunteer Committee this year, and we’ve received some stellar feedback from people involved with previous Giveaways but we’re always on the lookout for folks with event planning experience and/or fresh ideas. Click here for a full breakdown of the sub-committees to see which may be the best fit you and how to sign-up.

We’ve also just completed the “Day-Of” volunteer opportunities - Saturday, December 16th - so if you know you’ll be available on the big day sign-up here to secure your spot!

Lastly, bike storage is at a premium and we’re desperately looking for temporary use spaces. If you have or know someone that has a garage, barn, etc. that could be used to store bikes until the giveaway on December 16th, contact Aaron, our Volunteer Coordinator, at aaron@boisebicycleproject.org.

Thanks gang, see ya soon!

A Guide For Easy, Effective, and Crisp Shifting : Front and Rear Derailleur Adjustment

Don't let your ride get derailed by bad shifting! Come to our Friday Night BYOB Member's Class to learn how to properly set-up and adjust your derailers for quick, accurate shifting every time. There are only a few adjustments to be made on most derailers (high and low limit screws, B-screws, and cable tension) but knowing when to adjust what can be confusing and intimidating.

Boise GreenBike's Field Technician Kelly Frazier will be guest-teaching this class and providing the know-how you need to troubleshoot your gears and easily adjust your derailers on the trail or in the stand.

If you’ve been in to volunteer in the past few weeks then you’ve already seen that we’re in full Christmas Giveaway bike build mode. Getting hundreds of kids bikes ready for the big giveaway is a major focus but there are several ways you can help BBP accomplish it’s mission this year without even touching a wrench.

There will be a Christmas Giveaway Volunteer Leadership Committee meeting Wed. the 25th right here at the Bike Project. The meeting starts at 6:00pm and we will be discussing the various roles and volunteer opportunities related to the event. Volunteers will be needed for everything from passing out snacks to driving families to and from the shop on the day of the giveaway. The Christmas Giveaway is is a special event to be a part of and everyone is encouraged to attend and find out how to help make it happen!

Tools we need:

  • Box cutters
  • Dead blow hammers

  • Metric wrenches (one more set please!)
  • Any bike tools
