Volunteer with BBP!

one day bike drive.jpg

Our friends over at Primary Health are putting on a One-Day Bike Drive this Saturday the 30th, with all the donated bikes destined for BBP. If you can't get to BBP to donate your bike, you can drop it off at any Primary Health urgent care from 10am-2pm!

We’re looking for several volunteers with trucks and/or trailers to help us go around and do bike pick-ups at the various drop-off points. The drive will run from 10am-2pm so we’re asking our volunteers to arrive at the clinics right as it is ending to begin loading up the bikes. Click here for more information and a list of all the the participating clinics. Email our Volunteer Coordinator, aaron@boisebicycleproject.org, with any questions or concerns as to how you can lend a hand.

If you haven’t got a truck or trailer but are still looking to get involved this week, pop in for one of our Volunteer Nights: Tues. and Thurs. 6-8pm. The Christmas Give-Away is steadily approaching and we need your help to get a head start on fixin’ up little bikes to insure that we get a bike to every kid that needs one!

Bikes for Sale!

Fall is here and colder, wetter weather is on its way. Riding your bike through adverse conditions can be fun and invigorating, but it can take its toll on your bike. If you’re planning on riding through the winter, getting a lower-cost utilitarian bike to bear the brunt of winter’s worst weather can be a great way to get out and enjoy all-season riding.

Luckily, the BBP is fully stocked with retro mountain bikes and stable commuters that can make a trip to work possible in (almost) any weather. Come check out our $200-$300 Trek, Specialized, Giant, and other great bikes that can be bar-mitted, fendered, and studded for safe, stable, and comfortable riding throughout the colder months.

Sew your own Bike Bags | September 29th, 630PM-800PM

Learn how to sew your own bike bags and increase your carrying capacity affordably. The right bags can make commuting more convenient and extended bike tours possible. Making your own bags can save you money and you can design your bags specifically for your bike and needs.

Join BBP mechanic and former outdoor gear designer and entrepreneur, Rich Gardunia, in this demo class. Rich will be walking us through the steps of sewing a custom-fit frame bag for your bike. With the right fabric, velcro, and know-how you can convert almost any space on your bicycle into a veritable stowage option.

Bring Your Own Bike: Making Your Bike Stop On A Dime: Brake/Pad Inspection, Adjustment, Replacement

Every time you brake, a tiny bit of your brake pad wears away. Sometimes you have brake pads that are contaminated with foreign objects and these can actually wear away the sidewalls of your wheel or disc rotor. Over time, the wearing of your pads cause them to hit the rim at an angle that is less than ideal, which can lead to inefficient braking and terrible noises.

In this class you will learn how to install and adjust brake pads. Everyone will leave riding a bicycle with more stopping power.

Volunteer with BBP

This Thursday is September’s Kid’s Fix-It night! Once a month we invite kids from all over the community to come in and learn to fix their bicycles free of charge. We always get a big turnout and we need all hands on deck to insure everyone leaves with a functional bike. Kid’s Fix-It will be happening during volunteer night from 6 to 8pm.

In addition, Whitney Elementary will be hosting a Bike Bonanza this Saturday, the 24th, and we’re looking for a couple volunteer mechanics to come help us perform minor repairs to kid’s bikes free of charge. BBP will be there from 9am-Noon fixing bikes and you can hang out afterwards for a safe cycling forum followed by a group ride from Whitney CC to Shoshone Park and back. Sign-up here under Mobile Fix-It Mechanic to help out.

Lastly, we’ve got a number of construction projects piling up around the shop. If you have any handyman or handywoman experience we’ve got plenty of ways to put you to work. Our Tues. and Thurs. 6-8 volunteer nights are a great time to come in if you’re interested in helping out.
