BBP believes that everyone should have access to quality affordable bicycles, repair, and education regardless of income. BBP makes this access attainable for teens and adults through several of its programs.
For those lacking necessary funds, BBP offers a 1 for 1 (1 hour of work = 1 hour of shop time) work trade program. Parts essential for commuting can be acquired through work trade (1 hour of work = $10 of parts/supplies), but not upgrades or accessories. To participate in work trade participants must bring their bicycle to the BBP shop during open hours. BBP staff will assess how much work time is needed in exchange for repair.
Please call 208-429-6520 for more information.
Repair, Safety, and Commuting Classes:
There's a saying about teaching a man to fish and he can ride it to dinner without breaking down or getting hit by a car... or something like that. BBP believes in the empowering journey of education, and has created a variety of opportunities for folks to learn about repair, commuting, safety, and more...
Biking Boise, commuting class
BBP hosts a free commuting class for adults. The class begins in a classroom setting and then travels throughout Boise, covering safe riding techniques, traffic law, and basic commuting skills. Come with your bicycle and helmet, ready to ride. This program is for folks aged 14 and over only. Anyone under 18 years old need to be accompanied by an adult. This program is outside, so please dress appropriately for the weather. Email email@example.com for more information.
BBP Social Rides
These light-hearted fun social rides will (usually) start at BBP and end at various locations around town. They are a great way to meet other bicyclists, explore new areas of the community, and learn proper riding/commuting techniques. Routes and destinations will be posted ahead of time. We will to our best to make destinations appropriate for ages 16 and up, but check the calendar ahead of time just in case. Check the BBP Calendar for upcoming rides!
Volunteer Repair Classes
These classes are intended to help volunteers take their bicycle mechanic skills to the next level. The classes run in a 15 week series covering all aspects of bicycle repair related to volunteering at BBP. Don't worry if you miss a class in the series. You will be ok. (Note: attendance at Volunteer Orientation required prior.)
Friday Night Bike Classes are for BBP members wanting to get an extensive education in all aspects of the bicycle. Classes usually focus on bicycle repair, but sometimes include classes on touring, commuting, and other informative bike-related topics.
